The red and the white walk together in procession from the south to the north of the island during the Easter celebrations. Each Holy Friday, the «Cattenacciu» ( a penitent dressed in Red) of Sartene sets out on his way of the cross through the steep streets of Sartene. The friaries of the towns around Corte perform the white Granitula ( the spiral ), a geometric figure aplicates the cycle of the seasons and of the revival of nature.
The significance of religious traditions in Corsican society is made visible by the strength of the theatrical setting given to this upper class room. As if it were an Episcopal palace, it offers a dominant, powerful red which is sometimes offset by white furniture as impressive as the red and designed in the nineteenth century Gustavien style.
